THE RECORD

uring our stay at the Battery Carriage House, our investigation focused primarily on Room Eight while documenting both active paranormal sessions and time spent inside the space.

The room immediately stood out for its strong historic atmosphere and became the center of several notable moments. Early in the stay, a possible music box sound was mentioned without a clear source. As the investigation continued, multiple devices drained unusually fast, leading to repeated charging and interruptions during recording.

EVP and spirit box sessions were conducted in Room Eight, with several direct communication attempts. One of the most meaningful moments came during a session addressing Sarah, a family connection tied to the property, where we asked for confirmation through knocks or other signs.

By the end of the stay, we noted lingering feelings of being watched, unusual dreams overnight, and several recordings flagged for review.

Overall, the Battery Carriage House felt calm and welcoming while still producing a series of unexplained moments—especially in Room Eight—making it one of the most personally meaningful investigations of the trip.

FIELD NOTES

No single event produced a clear conclusion.

A pattern was still present.

And Room Eight remained the center of it.

The overall atmosphere of the property felt calm, elegant, and historically immersive from the beginning.

Room Eight felt visually striking and remained comfortable throughout the stay, allowing enough uninterrupted time inside the space to establish a clear sense of what felt ordinary versus what stood out.

Entry 001- Arrival

Entry 002- Audio/Sound Observations

One of the earliest notable moments involved mention of a music box sound with no immediate or obvious source. The sound was not consistently heard by everyone present, which made it stand out and led to it being flagged for later review.

Upon further audio review, an EVP was identified in which music was distinctly captured. The sound was eerily similar to a music box and closely matched what had been referenced earlier in the room. Because the audio was both mentioned in real time and later captured during review, it became one of the most notable unexplained moments of the investigation and remained a key piece of evidence connected to Room Eight.

Entry 003-Electronics/Equipment

Several devices drained battery faster than expected during the investigation. Equipment required repeated charging and occasional resets while filming and recording. The frequency of these interruptions was noted because it occurred during both casual documentation and focused investigation sessions.

Entry 004- EVPs

Multiple EVP and spirit box sessions were conducted in Room Eight. Questions were asked directly while monitoring for environmental changes and possible audio responses. While no immediate response was confirmed in the moment, several recordings were found to contain potential EVPs.

Entry 005- Family Legacy

For our team, Battery Carriage House is more than a historic Charleston property—it carries a direct family connection.

John C. Calhoun is part of our family line, a many-times-great uncle whose legacy remains woven through South Carolina history. Through that same Calhoun line, we are also connected to Sarah Calhoun Simonds, his niece.

Sarah Calhoun Simonds lived at Battery Carriage House beginning in 1872 and remained there until her death, making the property not only historically significant to Charleston, but deeply personal to our own family history.

Walking the property carries a different feeling knowing a direct relative once called these halls home. The experience feels layered in a way that goes beyond research—history becoming immediate, personal, and tangible.

For Haunted Mirror Society, that connection shaped the investigation in a meaningful way. Questions asked during EVP sessions carried added intention, centered not only on the documented history of the property, but on the possibility of connecting with stories tied directly to our own family line.

Battery Carriage House stands as both a historic Charleston landmark and a lasting part of our family legacy—where history feels preserved, personal, and remarkably close.
